Artist Statement
I am a South Florida-based artist/cultural worker who currently makes a living teaching English as a Second Language to middle school students at a public school in Miami.
Although I have been painting or drawing most of my life, I began painting in earnest on the 12th of August 2012 which coincided with the 24th anniversary of the passing of the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. In addition to Basquiat, the artists who have influenced me include Cy Twombly, Willem deKooning, Franz Kline, and Claude Monet.
What is art? Art is alchemical. Art is magick. I do not subscribe to a particular school or movement. Labels such as Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Impressionsim, Pop, etc. are good for academic purposes or placing art within a historical context. Art to me, however, is boundless, timeless, endless. My paintings are created for the pleasure of the viewer. Allow yourself to become immersed in the color, rhythm, and sound of the painting. Let the experience take you back to a memory trapped in Time like an insect in amber.
